Food Security and Nutrition

Strategic Objective: To support the rural communities in Mubende and Mityana districts get enough food for home consumption and extra for sale.
  • We train farmer groups in methods of sustainable agriculture with marketing.
  • Provision of farm inputs to at least 100 farmers each year
Malnutrition is one of the leading causes of premature death in the Mubende and Mityana Districts, especially in vulnerable person like children and those infected with HIV/AIDS. RHCF Uganda's food security and nutrition programs, started in 2007, encourage and educate families on how to grow nutritional foods that can be stored for longer periods of time.
Going from village to village, RHCF Uganda staff train individual families on how to farm sustainably and distribute seed packets with nutritious foods like pumpkins, tomatoes, and eggplants. We are currently working on expanding the program and acquiring machines that can create a powder form of the vegetables, allowing them to keep for even longer.
